Nolan Hildebrand is a composer, improviser, sound artist, and drummer currently based in Toronto, Canada. His musical journey which began with playing drums to his favourite metal and math-rock albums, has grown to encompass composition for classical ensembles and electroacoustic music, and performance in psychedelic rock bands, and an experimental solo noise project dubbed BLACK GALAXIE.
Nolan is currently completing a Masters in Music Composition at the University of Toronto with a focus on graphic notation and electroacoustic music. Most recently Nolan began a community based open graphic score research project that centers around the interpretation and analysis of four open abstract graphic scores. Nolan will be conducting further research abroad at the Centre for Research in New Music (CeReNeM) at Huddersfield University in the winter of 2022. Nolan’s research will culminate with a presentation at the CeReNeM graduate symposium.
