Wednesday, January 29 | 7:30 pm | Centennial Concert Hall

Music Director Daniel Raiskin leads the WSO in a series of works featuring guest soloists. This unique program places a spotlight on the relationship between soloist, conductor, orchestra, and composer – and the dialogue, synergy, and conflict that arise from their interactions.

WSO principal flutist Jan Kocman opens the concert with Gabriella Lena Frank’s evocative tone poem Illapa that explores her South American roots. Canadian composer Jared Miller teams up with pianist Sara Davis Buechner in the world premiere of his Piano Concerto No. 1, co-commissioned by Buechner and the WSO.

Returning to WNMF following the success of his tabla concerto, Dinuk Wijeratne presents his new Clarinet Concerto featuring international sensation Kinan Azmeh. Finally, WSO proudly presents the great jazz pianist-composer Tigran Hamasyan and his trio performing a unique adaptation of Road Song for jazz trio and orchestra.
